ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL DRESS CODE
2005-2006
GIRLS
The girls of grades K-4 will wear:
- a brown plaid uniform jumper, skirt, skort, or slacks. (See p. 4 of Schoolbelles Booklet)
- a black, brown or tan jumper, skirt, skort, slacks, dress cords or dress jeans.(See p. 6 & 7 of
Schoolbelles Booklet) All clothing with belt loops must have simple-style belt. (All jumpers, skirts,
skorts are to be no shorter than 2-3 above knees)
- a solid/plain yellow, white or black cotton or knit blouse, short or long sleeves, with straight or peter
pan collar (See p. 6 of Schoolbelles Booklet) (All blouses are shirts are to be long enough to
remain tucked in clothing at all times)
- a solid/plain yellow, white, or black turtleneck knit shirt, long sleeves (See p. 8 of Schoolbelle
Booklet)
- a solid/plain yellow, white, black or brown cardigan or pullover sweater worn over the blouse.
(See p. 8 of Schoolbelles Booklet)
- a solid/plain yellow, white, black or brown sweatshirt may be worn over the uniform shirt during the
school day. (NO hoods) (They may be plain or have a logo of St. Joseph School only)
- During the winter months girls in Grades 1-3 are allowed to wear slacks under their jumpers.
The girls of grades 5-8 will wear:

- a solid/plain yellow, white or black turtleneck knit shirt, long sleeves (See p. 8 of Schoolbelles
Booklet) (All blouses and shirts are to be long enough to remain tucked in clothing at all times).
- a solid/plain yellow, white, black or brown cardigan or pullover sweater worn over the blouse.

- a solid/plain yellow, white, black or brown sweatshirt may be worn over the uniform shirt during the

ALL GIRLS ARE TO ABIDE BY THE FOLLOWING:
- Shoes: sturdy school shoes
example: oxford or loafer, 1 heel, brown or black or black with white
saddles or athletic shoes (NO high tops or boots, no heelless, toeless shoes or sandals
are allowed for health and safety reasons)
- Socks: solid white, yellow, black or brown above ankle, knee or tights.
- Hairstyles: traditional and appropriate, ribbons and clips.
- Jewelry: simple wrist watch only, earrings (post only)
- Natural hair color only; hair to be off face and out of eyes.
- Light make-up for Grades 7 and 8 only.
- No fads: no body piercing, tattoos, etc.
PRESCHOOL STUDENTS
Both girls and boys are to dress appropriately and comfortably during the school year.
BOYS
The boys of grades K-8 will wear:
- a black, brown or tan dress trousers, dress cords or dress jeans. (See p. 13 & 14 of Schoolbelles
Booklet) All slacks must be hemmed, straight leg. (Gr. 1-3 option of elastic waist) All clothing with
belt loops must have simple-style belt. Outside pockets are acceptable.
- a solid/plain yellow, white or black cotton or knit shirt (short or long sleeve) with collar
(No T-shirt styled shirts) (undershirts are to be plain and white)(See p. 12 of Schoolbelles Booklet)
(All shirts are to be long enough to remain tucked in clothing at all times)
- a solid/plain yellow, white, or black turtleneck knit shirt, long sleeves (See p. 13 of Schoolbelles
Booklet) (shirts are to be long enough to remain tucked in clothing at all times)
- solid/plain sweatshirts in yellow, white, black or brown may be worn over the uniform shirt during the school day. (NO hoods) (They may be plain or have a logo of St. Joseph School only)

WARM WEATHER UNIFORM POLICY
- During the months of August, September, May and June, students may wear appropriate walking shorts, capris or jean shorts of black, brown, tan or yellow. (All shorts are to be no shorter than 2-3 above the knee.) Spandex, biker-type shorts or sport shorts are not acceptable for school wear. The basic uniform top of white, black or yellow shirt or blouse will be worn with the shorts.
WINTER DRESS UNIFORM POLICY
- During the winter months, boots are to be worn or a SECOND PAIR of shoes is needed into which to change.
- Since Gym class and recess occur outdoors, hat, gloves/mittens and winter coats are to be worn.
SPORTS MCAL UNIFORM POLICY
- Students must be in school uniform when leaving school (last gym class included).
- Jr. High students in MCAL may change before going to practice. MCAL Team Players may wear team shirt over uniform shirt on game days.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM POLICY
- Our physical education classes are held outside unless it is raining, snowing, or snow is on the ground, so the children need to be dressed appropriately according to the following:
- Tennis shoes are to be worn in order to participate.
- In the months of October, November, December, January, February and March, all children must have a coat or jacket in order to participate. This may include a sweatshirt only if it is not being worn while the child is in the classroom.
- During the months of November through February, coat, hats, and gloves or mittens must be worn in order to participate.
JEAN DAYS

On the first Friday of each month, we have a Jean Day for the missions - donation is one dollar. Students wishing to participate are permitted to wear blue jeans and an appropriate shirt. Students not wishing to participate are to wear uniforms.
- All other concerns regarding the uniform policy will be left to the discretion of the Principal.
